"It is a sensuous delight, Madhat Kakei refuses to limit his art to the solely visible, making it difficult to resist the desire to touch. You are made aware of the tactile qualities of paint, that it is not just intangible colour, it also has body. The tension between a work of art as a representation of something, a window that lets the viewer become aware of another world, something beyond this one – and the denial of that, where a work of art, such as a painting is a material object like any other, or as the minimalist Frank Stella stated: 'what you see is what you see.' But one of the intriguing aspects of abstract art like that of Madhat Kakei, is that it can allow the viewer to shift the gaze from the raw material to imagining something beyond."
