Pauline Fransson | De blygas längtan

22 August - 28 September 2024
Overview

We are pleased to present Pauline Fransson’s second and, to date, largest solo exhibition at Berg Gallery, titled De blygas längtan ('The Longing of the Shy').

Since graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 2021, Fransson has participated in several group exhibitions and art fairs, both national and international, and she has been widely celebrated for her sensitive paintings in oil and tempera. In the upcoming exhibition, she introduces a range of new materials – charcoal, graphite, and oil pastel – which all serve as a contrast to the delicacy and transparency of the tempera.

Fransson’s semi-abstract works evoke both tension and stillness, oftenmost depicting deserted places and natural objects set against a background of gently defined color fields. The title of the exhibition is a reference to the 20th century writer Stina Aronson’s novel Hitom himlen (1946), in which she describes the rural landscape of northern Sweden and a seemingly motionless existence. Like Aronson, Fransson devotes herself to depicting phenomena that go beyond words, and in doing so, giving voice to the silent. Her latest series of works, presented in the exhibition, are personal observations of the nature that surronds the artist, and of the subtle shifts in the landscape.

The exhibition is accompanied by a text written by the artist.
