Carl Richard Söderström | Chinese whispers
Carl Richard Söderström's material of choice is a black-burnished stoneware clay with which he sculptures abstract objects, obsessive and distorted, in shapes that breathe both vegetation and being. The exhibition "Chinese Whispers" is a play on how the world looks when seen through the corner of the eye, characterized by what we think we see instead of what is actually there. This approach serves as a method of exploring and challenging aesthetic values, as well as Söderström's own form of expression.
Carl Richard Söderström was born in 1960 and has his studio in the centre of Stockholm. He is educated in ceramics and glass at University of Arts, Crafts & Design (Konstfack) in Stockholm. He has exhibited at Moderna Museet, ArkDes, and Berg Gallery in Stockholm, the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, Saatchi and Flow Gallery in London and Galerie NeC in Paris. Carl Richard Söderström also works with public commission bronze sculptures.
