Andreas Glad | The Weave

3 October - 1 November 2024
Overview

We are pleased to present new works by Andreas Glad, who had his first solo exhibition, titled Wipe Your Feet on My Dreams, at Berg Gallery in 2022. The current presentation includes three monumental paintings that were shown in the exhibition Solid Ground at Sörmlands Museum during this spring and summer – an extensive solo exhibition featuring paintings and models by Glad dating from 2007–2024.

In the Tonight series, Glad captures motifs from different areas of Malmö – a dramatic sunset over the old working-class suburb Kirseberg, and the night sky over Seved after a late summer rain – thus transforming these everyday settings into spectacular scenes. In the foreground are community and guerilla gardens, a recurring motif in Glad's work where he often explores the relationship between urban landscapes and nature.

The painting Greenhouse depicts a number of dry trees and plants in a simple wooden structure, surrounded by a compact darkness. A smaller prototype with palm trees, banana trees and cacti served as a model for the painting. The relationship between the intimate format of the model and the large-scale painting suggests a subtext addressing broader societal issues.
