Carl Richard Söderström b. 1960

Biography

Carl Richard Söderström mainly works in a black-firing stoneware clay from which he works out shapes and structures from his inner imaginative world. His artistic practice evolves around examining traditional crafting methods in ceramics, where the investigations and experiments carried out by him serves as a constant inspiration for future works. His influences from nature are clear and they are modeled directly out of the clay. Abstract objects, bulky and distorted, with shapes that signify both vegetation and essence, grow out of an intuitive working method where the process itself is just as important as the finished result.

Carl Richard Söderström was born in 1960 and has his studio in the centre of Stockholm. He is educated in ceramics and glass at University of Arts, Crafts & Design (Konstfack) in Stockholm. He has exhibited at Moderna Museet, ArkDes, and Berg Gallery in Stockholm, the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, Saatchi and Flow Gallery in London and Galerie NeC in Paris. Carl Richard Söderström also works with public commission bronze sculptures.
